About Guntur Sannam S4 Dry Red Chilli
Guntur Sannam, usually traded as S4, is the highest-volume chilli in the Indian export trade and the reference point most international buyers price against. It sits in the middle of the range on both properties that matter (solid colour, medium to hot pungency) which is exactly why it works as a general-purpose culinary and blending chilli.
It takes its name from the Guntur region of Andhra Pradesh, the largest chilli trading centre in India. Volume and liquidity are the practical advantages: supply is deep enough that large orders are straightforward to fill and pricing is transparent.
Available with stem or stemless depending on your processing line, in 25–50 kg export bags. Specify maximum moisture and acceptable broken percentage alongside your colour and heat requirements, and we will quote against the current crop.
The practical advantage of buying the reference variety is liquidity. Because Guntur Sannam moves in the largest volumes of any Indian chilli, supply is deep enough that sizeable orders are straightforward to fill, pricing is transparent, and you are not dependent on a single grower or region for continuity. For a buyer running a continuous programme rather than an occasional purchase, that reliability is often worth more than a marginal advantage in colour or heat from a scarcer variety.
Where both colour and pungency matter to your formulation, blending is normal practice rather than a compromise. Guntur sits in the middle of the range on both, so it is frequently used as a base and adjusted with a colour variety such as Byadgi or a heat variety such as Teja to reach a target. Give us the values you need rather than a ratio, since the ratio depends on what the current crop is actually testing at and changes season to season.
